Copy
playbook
Ready-to-use copy for every channel in the launch brief: ads, texts, emails, push, LinkedIn, Instagram, the sampling table and the press release. Written to be pasted, then edited by Ray in his own words.
How to use this
Nothing here is final. It is a first draft of the whole system so the decisions are about words and numbers, not about blank pages. Where two versions are given, pick one, or run both and keep the winner.
- Everything assumes the brand sentence from the brief: HyperShift Hydration is a caffeine-free electrolyte drink in a 12 oz can, made with real cane sugar and colors from fruit and vegetables, still or sparkling, from Danville, California. If the sugar answer changes, search this page for "cane sugar" and fix every instance the same day.
- Launch date is written as Dec 15. Price is written as $29 per 12-pack. Both are [confirm].
- SMS copy is counted in characters; under 160 is one segment and the cheapest. Compliance language is included where the law needs it.
- Email copy is short on purpose. A founder note that reads in 20 seconds beats a designed newsletter.
Voice rules
- Plain, specific, a little dry. Say what the can is and what it does. No "elevate," no "fuel your journey," no "unlock."
- Numbers over adjectives. "0 mg caffeine, 12 oz, cane sugar" beats "clean, bold, better."
- One idea per message. If a sentence has an "and also," cut it.
- Never call it an energy drink, a sports drink for athletes only, or "IV-level" anything. It is a hydration drink people actually want to finish.
- The founder writes like a person. First person, short sentences, the occasional admission that something was hard.
- Sign-offs: Ray. Or HYPERSHIFT. Not "Team HyperShift."
- No exclamation marks in texts or push. One per email, at most.
Instagram and Facebook ads
Three angles, each as a 15-second vertical video with captions on. Test all three for a week with equal budget inside a 15-mile radius of Danville. Keep the one with the cheapest sign-up, then make five variations of it. Before launch the objective is leads (the waitlist). After launch, sales.
Angle 1: the can
Awareness. Works for everyone; it is the thing people stop on.
- Hook (0 to 2s)
- Close on a cold can, condensation running, colors shifting under light. On-screen text: "Caffeine free."
- Script (2 to 12s)
- Cut through the five cans, one second each, flavor name on screen. Crack and pour into a glass over ice. Fizz for Lucid Dream. Voiceover or text: "Electrolytes. Real cane sugar. Nothing artificial. Still or sparkling."
- Close (12 to 15s)
- Lineup shot. "HYPERSHIFT. Danville, CA. First cases ship Dec 15."
- Primary text A
- Caffeine-free hydration that tastes like something you'd pick on purpose. Electrolytes, real cane sugar, colors from fruit and vegetables. Five flavors, still or sparkling. Made in Danville. First cases ship Dec 15, members first.
- Primary text B
- No caffeine. No fake sweeteners. No dyes. Just electrolytes, cane sugar and five flavors that are loud about it. HYPERSHIFT launches Dec 15. Get on the list and pick your flavor.
- Headline
- Hydration for what's next
- CTA
- Sign up (pre-launch) / Shop now (post-launch)
Angle 2: the 3 pm problem
Office workers, parents, anyone cutting back on caffeine. The strongest conversion angle on paper.
- Hook
- Phone screen showing 2:58 pm. A hand reaches for an energy drink, stops. Text: "It's 3 pm. You don't need a third coffee."
- Script
- Hand picks up a HYPERSHIFT instead. Crack, drink, back to the laptop. Text over three beats: "0 mg caffeine." "Electrolytes." "Still awake at 10 pm because you slept, not because you're wired."
- Close
- Can on the desk. "HYPERSHIFT. The afternoon drink that lets you sleep."
- Primary text A
- The afternoon slump is usually dehydration wearing a caffeine costume. HYPERSHIFT is electrolytes and real cane sugar in a 12 oz can, zero caffeine, so the 3 pm drink doesn't cost you the night. Five flavors. Launching Dec 15.
- Primary text B
- We made the drink for the part of the day when coffee stops working and energy drinks start costing you sleep. Caffeine-free, electrolytes, cane sugar, nothing artificial. HYPERSHIFT, from Danville. Members get the first cases.
- Headline
- 0 mg caffeine. Still a lift.
- CTA
- Sign up / Shop now
Angle 3: the sugar answer
Health-aware shoppers who read labels; the people most likely to object. Say it before they do.
- Hook
- Back of two cans side by side, ingredient lists blurred except one line each. Text: "Read the second line."
- Script
- Reveal: competitor line reads "sucralose, acesulfame potassium, Red 40" [confirm with a real, accurate label or use a generic "artificial sweeteners, synthetic dyes" card instead of naming a brand]. HYPERSHIFT line reads "cane sugar, fruit and vegetable juice for color." Text: "We used sugar you've heard of and colors from food. [X] g per can. [confirm]"
- Close
- Front of the can. "HYPERSHIFT. Honest about what's in it."
- Primary text A
- Yes, it has sugar. [X] grams of real cane sugar per 12 oz can, because that is what your body actually uses to move water and electrolytes, and because we were not going to put sucralose in something we drink every day. No caffeine. No dyes. HYPERSHIFT launches Dec 15.
- Primary text B
- Most new hydration drinks went zero-sugar and filled the gap with sweeteners you can't pronounce. We went the other way: real cane sugar, [X] g a can, colors from fruit and vegetables, no caffeine. If you've been waiting for one that reads clean on the back, this is it.
- Headline
- Real sugar. Real colors. No caffeine.
- CTA
- Learn more (pre-launch) / Shop now
Set-up notes
| Setting | Pre-launch (now to Dec 14) | Launch and after |
|---|---|---|
| Objective | Leads, optimised for the Klaviyo form completion event | Sales, optimised for purchase; a second campaign for retargeting |
| Geography | 15 miles around Danville | East Bay for 60 days, then Bay Area |
| Audiences | Broad within the radius, ages 22 to 54; one interest stack (running, Pilates, CrossFit, Orangetheory, youth sports, Whole Foods, Olipop, LMNT) for comparison | Broad + lookalike of purchasers once there are 100; retarget video viewers (50%+) and site visitors with the founding member offer |
| Placements | Instagram Reels and Stories, Facebook Feed and Reels. Turn off Audience Network. | Same |
| Daily budget | $30 to $40 total, split evenly across the three angles for 7 days | Per the budget tier in the brief |
| Kill rule | After $100 spent on an ad set with cost per sign-up above $8, pause it [estimate] | After $150 with no purchase, pause |
| Creative refresh | Weekly: new hook on the winning angle | Every two weeks; add UGC from creators and samplings |
Facebook community groups (Danville, Alamo, San Ramon parents and neighbors) are not ad placements; post there as a person, once, with the first sampling date. Over-posting gets you removed.
SMS library
Every text the lifecycle needs, in order. One segment where possible. The first message a person ever gets carries the brand name, the frequency and the opt-out, because the law requires it and because it sets expectations.

Two voices. Ray builds in public: the product, the decisions, the first yes and the first no. Nick writes the go-to-market side for a sales audience. Both link to the same page. Two posts a week each through launch; no hashtags beyond two, no "Agree?" endings.
Ray, six posts (Nov 9 to Dec 15)
1. The reason
2. The sugar decision
3. The can
4. The first no
5. The samplings
6. Launch day
7. The jersey (after launch)
Nick, four posts
1. What launching a CPG brand with no budget looks like

Fix the bio first. Then post the build three times a week, every sampling as a Story, every store as a post. The goal by launch is 500 local followers who have seen a human behind the can, not 5,000 strangers.
Bio
Replaces "Zero sugar. Zero caffeine. No fake science." [confirm the sugar line]. Highlights: Flavors, Where to find us, Behind the can, FAQ.
Weekly rhythm
| Day | Post |
|---|---|
| Monday | Reel: product or process (can, pour, formulation, a decision) |
| Wednesday | Carousel or static: one fact (caffeine, sugar, colors, a flavor), one slide per point |
| Saturday | Stories from the sampling all morning; one Reel of the best moment by evening |
| Daily | 15 minutes: comment on Danville, Tri-Valley, run club, gym and youth sports accounts as the brand |
Ten Reel ideas
- The pour. Lucid Dream over ice, slow, no music, just the sound.
- "Which can would you grab first?" Five cans on a table, hand hovers, comments decide.
- Ray reads the back of the can out loud, then reads a competitor's. No commentary.
- 3 pm desk cut: coffee, energy drink, HYPERSHIFT. Text: "pick the one that lets you sleep."
- Sampling-day first reactions, three people, three flavors, unscripted.
- "Why the can says caffeine free at the top" (the first question everyone asks).
- Packing the first case by hand.
- Kids' soccer sideline Saturday: parents' faces when they hear "no caffeine, no dyes."
- Fridge tour of the first office that stocked it.
- The jersey, worn on a Mt. Diablo climb or a Wednesday run. No talking, just the gradient moving.
- Launch morning, 6:55 am, hitting publish.

What Ray says (20 seconds)
Three answers to have ready
- "How much sugar?" "[X] grams a can, real cane sugar. About [compare to a known drink, e.g. a third of a Coke] [confirm]. No sweeteners."
- "Is it okay for kids?" "No caffeine, no dyes, no artificial sweeteners. It's sugar and electrolytes, so it's a treat drink, not water. Parents here buy it for after games."
- "Where can I buy it?" "December 15 online, and [store] in Danville first [confirm]. Until then, the 4-packs on this table."
Logistics: two coolers, ice, cups for samples, a tablet with the Klaviyo form, Square reader, business cards with the QR. Ask each gym for a 30-minute window after its busiest Saturday class.

Submit through the portal the week of launch; a promoted placement is optional.
